Narrative

President Eisenhower approved Oxcart/A-12 in 1958 as the U-2's successor. Operational 1965-1967 (Mach 3.2 at 90,000 ft), it was retired by Johnson in 1968 and replaced by the SR-71. AARO cites it as a misidentification source.
