Narrative

A 38-year-old radio engineer reported a pear-shaped silver object with a red glow behind it, observed at 2020Z on 13 October 1956 above 10,000 feet, stationary with slight drift, which faded away after approximately three and a half hours of observation through binoculars. A local pilot and photographer took off from Schuylkill Airport, PA in an attempt to more closely observe the object, reaching 6,000 feet with the object still above. No pictures were obtained. The report listed 'Possibly balloon' as a candidate explanation.
